Question

I receive my medicines through Medicare but either a) can’t afford the co-pay, b) have reached the donut hole and can’t afford the cost of my medicine, or c) the medicine is not covered by my Medicare plan. Can the Pfizer Patient Assistance program help me?

Answer

The Pfizer Patient Assistance Program is open to both uninsured patients and underinsured patients with either public insurance like Medicare or private insurance like insurance provided through employers, pending eligibility.

To qualify for free medicine through the Pfizer Patient Assistance Program, patients must*:

  • Meet income guidelines, which vary by product and household size. The income eligibility for patient assistance starts at 400% of the Federal Poverty Limit adjusted for family size ($51,520 for a single person; $106,000 for a family of four). Income limits are subject to change on an annual basis; current limits reflect 2021 Federal Poverty Level Guidelines.
  • Have no prescription coverage, or not enough coverage, to pay for their medicine.
  • Be treated by a healthcare provider licensed in an outpatient setting in the United States, Puerto Rico, or US Virgin Islands.
  • Live in the United States, Puerto Rico, or US Virgin Islands.

*In addition to those noted here, other requirements may apply.

The difference in the program for uninsured patients vs. underinsured patients is that uninsured patients are enrolled for 12 months but patients with insurance are enrolled through the end of a calendar year, since many people switch plans at the end of the calendar year. Patients can reapply for help at the end of their enrollment period as often as needed.
